As a family run, small business, making memories with our family of mini piggies and furbabies is at the heart of Cwtch Farm – our name literally means hug!
At the doors to the Brecon beacons and tucked away from the bustling of everyday life, our guests come from all over to enjoy the views, the tranquillity and to reconnect with nature – and sometimes themselves.
So we’ve put together a list of the best days out at the Brecon Beacons and Gower, perfect for making special memories with the ones you love!
Dan Yr Ogof – The National Showcaves Centre for Wales
This award-winning attraction on the river Llynfell in Abercrave, Swansea is an awe-inspiring marvel of nature full of breath-taking sights and exciting activities for the whole family. From 16km of cave systems and an insight into thousands, maybe millions of years of history, to dinosaur parks, farm animals and playgrounds, this attraction has something for everyone and more than enough to keep curious kiddies and adults alike, busy for an entire day and more!
National Botanical Gardens
The beautiful, historic haven-of-nature that is the Wales’s National Botanical Gardens is bursting with meadows, woodlands and waterfalls. With over 500 acres of natural enchantment, 6 beautifully fascinating gardens, and home to the British Bird of Prey Centre and the largest glass house in the World, this botanical jewel in a watery valley of Carmarthenshire, is a beacon for those who both love to and are soon to, reconnect with all the majestic wonderment nature has to offer.
Cantref Adventure Farm
Not only does this adventure retreat boast some of the best views in Wales across the Brecon beacons and Black Mountains, it is also bustling with interactive farmyard pursuits for the entire family. Visitors can pet and cuddle cute little rabbits, super soft chinchillas and fluffy little baby chicks; you can bottle feed the baby lambs and goats; cheer the pink little piggies as they race (we love piggy friends here at Cwtch Farm!); ride a pony or take the tractor tour; chuckle at Mr Ev’s mini–panto; bounce around the indoor soft play – the list of family adventures goes on and on at Cantref!
British Bird of Prey Centre
Nestled on a hillside of Wales’s National Botanical Gardens is Britain’s home to many species of our majestic birds of prey. You can get up close to these beautiful creatures with private encounters and experience the incredible sight of their skills and beauty during one of the many flying displays scheduled as part of the centre’s busy and exciting daily itinerary.
Brecon Mountain Railway
For an exciting family day out, travel back in time at the Brecon Mountain Railway on one of their historic steam trains. Originally built in 1859 the railway connected the world to one of the greatest iron making towns, Merthyr Tydfil, which forged much of the rails for the world’s emerging railway systems. So it seems apt that after its closure in 1864, the Brecon and Merthyr Railway was chosen for the home of these historic steam engines and the Brecon Mountain Railway experience – even Father Christmas loves to visit each year!
Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary
This amazing sanctuary on the outskirts of the stunning Brecon Beacons is home to many rescued animals from around the world. There are over 20 animal species to visit and learn about from chimps, capuchins and lemurs to wolf dogs, horses and rabbits. Each animal has their own personality and story to get to know when you visit, and you can even book to be a keeper for the day!
So grab yourself a picnic, pack the kiddies in the car and head over to us here in South Wales for a warm Welsh welcome and your next big adventure – don’t forget to bring your camera to capture those warm, squishy memories!
